Wastewater Treatment Plant

Wastewater Treatment

Great quantities of poisoned wastewater are produced during the production processes of electronic products. If factories were to discharge wastewater into rivers arbitrarily, it would cause the serious harm to ecological resources. Wastewater treatment systems not only change poisoned substances into non-poisoned substances, but also recycle water resources so they can be used again. ICP DAS uses a high-performance controller I-8837 to control main system processing process equipment, and to communicate with InduSoft SCADA software—the user interface of the supervisory and control system. Users receive information about on-site processing status from any computer with an internet connection and browser at any location. I-8837 is designed to fit the worst circumstances in industrial environments, so that this system provides a stable and dependable control system. Indusoft, the SCADA software, has a friendly interface for users to develop their own systems fast and easily. Read the Full Wastewater Treatment Story.

Multi Com PDS

Multi-COM ports with PDS

There are generally a lot of general purpose devices to integrate with the central system in factories and offices. A card reader with an RS-232 interface is set outside of the door and far away from the central system. A device server enables the card reader to communicate with the central system by converting the serial RS-232 signal to Ethernet protocol. A PLC controlling lights, buttons and air conditioning call for multi-COM port connections. Through Ethernet, we can extend transmission distances. PDS also features programmability. Rooms can light up automatically just as someone is about to eneter. PDS and DS are great serial to Ethernet solutions. DS-712 is equipped with RS-485 and ethernet ports. PDS-742-IP67 is waterproof and dustproof. PDS-782-258 is designed for easy wiring. PDS-775 is equipped with 7 RS-485 COM ports at one time.

CAN Ethernet Gateway

CAN Ethernet Gateway

I-7540D can be used as an Ethernet to CAN/RS-232/485 Device Server. The Device Server is an appliance that network enables any device with a serial communication port. By virtue of its independent operating system, protocol independence, small size and flexibility, Device Servers are able to meet the demand of virtually any network-enabled application. Most devices don't have network ports. I-7540D allows those devices to become connected to the network.

Embedded Controller for Alarm System

Alarm Application

One of ICP DAS’ customers has a factory located in Taoyuan, 40 kilometers south of Taipei, previously used by Siemens and AB PLC. However, the alarm system at the manufacturing facility benefited by the new ICP DAS controllers since it would no longer be necessary to utilize a PC or touch monitor to configure and control the alarm system. The one hundred (100) Digital Inputs and one hundred and ten (110) Digital Outputs with One (1) I-8817 and two (2) I-8417 controllers collect signals from the entire facility and control the entire process. The information displays on I-8817 and I-8417, and ring. On board dial-up Modem function allows the controllers to page someone and to send alarm messages through regular phone line once the alarm happens. In summary, the outstanding features of the embedded controller for the alarm system has:

• PID control
• Motion control,
• Local data logger
• Dial-up modems
• Can be used in machine and process control
• Multi-language programming ability
• Development of multiple configurations

Gemtech Success Story

Gem Tech Application

Knowledge of production machine failure is crucial for implementation strategies to minimize failure and increase industrial productivity in industrial fields.

When a production machine stops, operators usually manually note stop times and times of production resumption with inaccuracies. This documentation is usually done in Microsoft Excel and usually results in delays in processing time by the production department.

The machine failure data acquisition system designed by GEMTECH using ICP DAS USA products, detects failure at the precise moment a machine stops. The operator scans production stops and restarts the machine. Then the operator scans the type of stop and the moment of resumption of production through barcodes. The number of most significant stops is known automatically in real time for a large number of machines. The PARETO analysis is done in real time. The system automatically shows the duration of stops per type. It also logs very important information such as the frequency of a given stop type over several months, as well as the gravity of each stop. The barcode scanners use the I-7188EX Embedded Controller in 232 entry, and the ICP DAS USA NS-205 (5 Port Industrial Ethernet Switch) to network the barcode information.

I-7188EX has an X100 (8 Channel Digital Input Expansion Card) installed to allow automatic recording of the produced quantities, the machines stop times, and to establish economic ratios for the cost prices near real time.

The application of this technology in a packaging products printing house allowed the identification of machine failures occurring 1.5 hours a day to be reduced to less than 30 minutes a day. This is equivalent of saving 12 to 13% per day. The Company spared the costs of buying a new machine and hiring two operators. The industrial operators gained knowledge, reacted and won.

Profibus to RS-232/422/485 Converter

Profibus to RS-485I-7550 PROFIBUS to RS-232/422/485 Converter allows RS232/422/485 devices into PROFIBUS Networks VERY easily. With the Hybrid COM 1 design, users can readily choose one type of com port to use. Each PROFIBUS segment can have up to 32 devices.

The parameters data of I-7550 are COM Port baud rate, COM Port parity, COM Port data length, end char of input data and input fixed length data. The user can configure the device parameters to set the communication mode and the input data mode in the PROFIBUS configuration tool.

I-7550 can be applied to applications such as industrial automation, Factory Automation and Process Automation.

I-7243 on Applied Industrial Machines

Applied Industrial Machines

The DeviceNet network is applied in more and more kinds of industrial machines. Servo drives often use DeviceNet communication protocol. Unfortunately, some PCs or PLCs are not set up for DeviceNet. The servo drives with DeviceNet are difficult to communicate with from these PLCs or PCs. I-7243D is a DeviceNet/Modbus TCP Gateway. It is useful in helping PCs or PLCs communicate with these servo drives via Ethernet.

  • I-7243D is used on PLASMA Cutting Machines with DANAHER servos that use a DeviceNet interface.
  • I-7243D lets users establish the control link between Computers and DANAHER servos by Modbus TCP
  • I-7243D comes with a User Friendly Utlitiy to set up the Gateway.
  • Users can easily set up the parameters of DeviceNet and Modbus TCP in their first application of the Gateway.

Web Based Remote Data Acquisition

Remote Data Acquisition

Normally, data such as flare temperature, gas flow, and leachate tank levels is captured by onsite chart recorders or data loggers, and a site visit is required to retrieve the data. The data is then entered or merged into database or spreadsheet programs back at the office, and periodic reports are generated manually.

In contrast, at the landfill sites where CriticalWireless’ web-based CriticalDAQ solution has been deployed, Waste Management has been able to greatly streamline and automate their data collection and reporting activities. With CriticalDAQ, data at the landfill is captured every 5 minutes and uploaded offsite to the CriticalWireless Data Center once an hour via a wireless cellular data connection. Customers access data from all of their sites by logging into their own secure, encrypted web portal application. From the CriticalDAQ web portal, users have access to data visualization tools such as graphs and virtual gauges, and can run customized reports or download data to external applications with just a couple of clicks. CriticalWireless utilizes our I-7041 and SG-3011 Click here for the full application story. Learn more about web based data acquisition.
